This book is aimed at providing a basic and introductory education in politics. To do so, by traversing thousands of years and hundreds of kilometers, from the animal kingdom to the contemporary world, the objective is to understand the origins of modern states, the unexpected and fragile nature of our democracy, or the ideologies and values that give meaning to our life in common. This book covers the formation of the state, the Enlightenment ideologies, how authoritarian regimes and democracies work, the difference between a parliamentary and a presidential system, types of territorial decentralization, families of political parties, the kinds of political participation or electoral systems. In a simple and didactic manner, the goal is to educate good citizens and provide the tools to better understand politics.
