VIVIEPOL

“The Political Impact of Residential Situation in Spain” (VIVIEPOL) is a project led by Pablo Simón, funded by a research grant from the Ministry of Science and Innovation (PID2023-149718NB-I00). The project aims to analyze the effects of residential situation on different attitudinal and socio-political dimensions.

To this end, it focuses on three main lines of research. First, it will analyze to what extent the type of tenure (ownership, rental, or other forms) influences electoral preferences, in order to determine whether residential conditions or associated environmental factors affect voting behavior. Second, it will study to what extent variations in housing situation are related to changes in political preferences and attitudes, paying special attention to the impact of tenure and market price fluctuations on redistributive preferences. Third, it will examine to what extent there are different preferences toward public policies related to housing, according to socio-political variables and specific tenure regimes. To address these questions, the project will first carry out a theoretical deepening of the causal mechanisms linking tenure regime with the variables to be explained. Second, a new database will be constructed to tackle the phenomenon at both the aggregate and individual levels, including a specific subsample of housing policy beneficiaries.
